WHO WE SUPPORT

The foundation offers financial support to charities involved in the provision of aid to various groups including:

  • Children and young people who suffer as a result of health problems

  • Children and young people who suffer as a result of poor social, economic and emotional circumstances

  • Organisations who work to improve the lives of the elderly

Although the foundation supports large, national charities in England, there is a definite emphasis on the small and the local.

Below are some of the wonderful charities that we’ve had the great privilege to be involved with over recent years. Being able to support them gives us a huge amount of pleasure and we very much admire the love, dedication and care that these charities provide to those in need.

Designability

Designability is a small UK charity that enables disabled people to live with greater independence. They design assistive living products for all ages, including the Wizzybugs, the fun, powered wheelchairs which provide very young children with their first experience of powered mobility.

“The support we have received from The Lake House Charitable Foundation has enabled us to provide independence, freedom and play to even more disabled children, through the provision of a Wizzybug powered wheelchair.”

Challengers

Challengers provide inclusive play and leisure opportunities across their schemes in the South East – places where disabled children and young people can enjoy fun activities and make friends. Their vision is to create a world where all children and young people can play together, freely. Their mission is to provide truly inclusive, fun and safe places where all disabled children and young people can spend time with their friends and to offer a positive impact for families and the wider community.

“We are truly grateful to the Trustees of The Lake House Charitable Foundation for supporting Challengers to break down the barriers to play for disabled children and young people. All too often, disabled children are excluded from mainstream play and leisure opportunities. However, support from the foundation has enabled hundreds of disabled children at our Farnham Playscheme to access opportunities to have fun, make friends and challenge their impairments. Thank you so much for your support!”

Ellen MacArthur Cancer TRUST

Through sailing and other UK-wide adventure activities, the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust supports, inspires and empowers young people aged 8-24 to embrace their future with optimism after treatment for cancer.

Young people build confidence by making friends with others who have had similar experiences – often for the first time – rediscovering independence away from home and learning new skills. Most importantly, they stop feeling like the ‘only one’.

Young people feel more positive about getting back into education or employment, reconnecting with their friends and families and re-establishing their place in the world. They discover a future they might never have thought was possible.

“The support from The Lake House Charitable Foundation over the last 8 years has been so important and has helped us to empower young people to embrace their future.”

Action for Stammering Children

Children who stammer are often held back at school, because they feel embarrassed or ashamed. They can be victims of bullying and become withdrawn and isolated. The Lake House Charitable Foundation is helping us provide a programme of assessments and therapy for children who stammer, helping them to improve spoken fluency and, crucially, increase self confidence and emotional resilience. We’re very grateful to The Lake House Charitable Foundation for helping children who stammer to see that they can achieve anything they want to. As one teenager wrote to us following a therapy course:

“I just wanted to say thank you … I’ve learnt so much and have grown a lot as a person, both stammer and non stammer related. I now feel more confident and ready for the future and for what it holds. Thank you for being so warm, friendly and understanding. I always felt comfortable talking to you and knew it’d be a safe space with no judgment. Your words of encouragement and wisdom will always stay with us and help us in times of distress.”

Sullivan’s HeroEs

Sullivan’s Heroes charity offers fundraising support and financial assistance for families funding vital home adaptations for a disabled child, to continue to care for their child at home, safely and with dignity.

These adaptations provide improved living spaces and safe environments to meet the child’s care and health requirements. Typical building projects might include house extensions, wet rooms, ceiling hoists, wheelchair lifts, internal wheelchair accessible living facilities plus external wheelchair ramps and access points.

“The Lake House Charitable Foundation’s generous contributions have been instrumental in supporting Sullivan’s Heroes and the families we help – including Libby, who was enabled to reach her new bedroom and wet room with a through-floor lift kindly funded by The Lake House. We are extremely grateful to everyone at The Lake House for their support.”

“We’re very grateful to The Lakehouse Charitable Foundation for their support of our work. Money donated to us helps fund our vital bereavement support of children and young people after the death of a loved one. Children like Macey, Shelby and Letty, whose big brother died by suicide. Mum, Nikki said: ‘The support from Winston’s Wish has been invaluable to me and my girls. It is still early days, but they are a huge support in helping us to understand and process the devastating loss of Thomas. They understand our grief completely and, with their help, we are beginning to try to find a ‘new’ normal.”
